The Votes are in!

After an unprecedented voter turn out, we have ourselves a winner!

First of all a HUGE thank you to our two designers, Hannah Patterson and Jake Hope for their awesome takes on Van Waitangi Day and for putting the time and effort in to create designs for us.  Secondly a thank you has to go out to everyone who voted, there were about 280 votes in the end which is pretty darn good if you ask me!

It was a close race all the way to the end with both designs neck and neck with 3 days left, but taking it out with approx 57% of the vote was...(insert dramatic drum roll here)...Jake Hope!

Congratulations Jake, we are stoked to have your design gracing the front of our Icebreaker tees for 2013, it's going to look awesome!  Remember peeps we will only have around 130 of these tees available on the day so make sure you are there early to secure yours, they will sell out!

We have some more exciting sponsor announcements coming in the next couple of weeks so keep an eye on the blog and facebook pages to stay up to date with everything!

PIG ON THE SPIT PIG ON THE SPIT PIG ON THE SPIT!

That's right!

Thanks to the Mad Butcher and the kitchen team at Library Square, Van Waitangi Day 2013 will include a Pig on the Spit!  We are pretty pumped about this new food offer and the thought of being able to hang around the Spit for the arvo with a Steiny in hand...It's going to be just like being back home!
We have also locked in a sausage sizzle for the day too...It'll feel like you're going into the Warehouse on a Saturday...only way better and heaps more bargains!

Its time to vote for your favorite tee design!

That's right...for the 2013 Van Waitangi Day tee design we have decided to put the vote to the people!

We have loaded our two design entries onto the blog (to the right) and below the designs is a poll...Simply pick your favorite and log your vote!  You have until 1pm on Wednesday the 19th to cast your vote so make sure you do!

Waitangi Day 2013...Gearing up and getting EXCITED!

Its all go here at Van Waitangi day headquarters! 

The team have been hard at work with the preparations for what is going to be the biggest and best Waitangi day Vancouver has seen!
Once again we will be heading back to Library Square for the 2013 celebration and after a positive meeting with the team there we are set to deliver a great day to the people!

At the moment the team is busy securing sponsors, getting menu items locked in, finalizing our custom 2013 Icebreaker tee designs (very cool stuff coming through) before we put them to a public vote and all the other behind the scenes stuff that make this day a cracker!

Last year we were able to raise over $12,000 NZD for the Bay Of Plenty Care For Our Coast Fund which is all thanks to YOU...the punters who came, bought tees, raffle tickets, drinks and our amazing sponsors!  The money has been distributed amongst various charities that are continuing to care for the ecosystem after the Rena Disaster.

This year we want to go even bigger! The official charity for 2013 is Kiwis for Kiwi which has taken over from where the BNZ save the Kiwi Trust left off. Check them out! www.kiwisforkiwi.org
The event is primarily a charity fundraising event with 100% of the money raised going to the selected charity...but it is also a great excuse for all the Kiwis, half Kiwis, Quasi Kiwis, Kiwis by association and all their mates to come along and have a few jars...All are welcome!

So come along and be a part of what is probably the biggest Waitangi day celebration in North America!

What a day!

Wow...what a day that was.  Thanks to all of the 361 people that came down to Library Square on Saturday and made Waitangi Day Vancouver the awesome event that it was.

A huge thanks goes out to our many generous sponsors!  I know there are a few people out there that are feeling pretty spoiled after their raffle wins on Saturday so thank you to all that donated either in prizes or money for our very worthy cause!
When we officially know the total fundraising effort we will let you know.

We still have 65 of our Icebreaker event tee's available and we would really like to see them all sold.  So if you know someone that wants one or you want another, drop us an email vanwaitangiday@gmail.com and we will try and sus it out for ya.  We took a gamble and ordered 200 so please help us out here if you can...at just $35 they are a steal!

Congratulations are in order too I think...we set the limit of 1000 Steiney Pure's for the day and I believe some of you took that as a personal challenge...Well you got through everything we had well before event close at 6 so Well Done New Zealand!

24 Hours to go!!!

The team is ready, the prizes are in, the pies are in the oven and Vancouver is turning it on today...just look at Big Yella smiling down on us!
Its going to be a great day tomorrow at Library Square, with the doors opening to all our Waitangi Day punters at 10am.
From 10am the Icebreaker Waitangi Day tees will be on sale for an outstanding $35...best to get in quick for these.  The Kiwi food menu will also kick in so why not re live your past and come join us for a pie for breakfast!
There will be a coat check service for $2 as you come in so you can come in incognito and strip off to your singlet jandals and stubbies no drama!

9 Days to Go!

With just 9 days to go things are really starting to take shape here at Waitangi Day HQ!  We have had our crew busy shopping for yummy treats back home and then jamming as much as they can into their luggage for the trip back to Van...the Kiwi care packages are looking Owesome!

The team is busy picking up all our sponsor products/prizes including the super cool looking Icebreaker tees this week.  Trust me you want to be there early to secure yourself one, the unique design is going to sell like hot meat pies!
On that hot meat pie note, Library Square have been busy securing the best meat pies available and are putting on some other kiwi favorites on the day including a Kiwi Burger, beef nachos and wedges with sour cream...YUM!

Its going to be a great day down at Library Square with our Kiwi DJ's lighting up the D-Floor and an ample supply of Steiny Pure on hand to get even the staunchest Kiwi bloke shuffling. There is even a limited supply of 42 Below Vodka making a guest appearance...Look out!

New Venue!

After an awesome meeting last night we have decided to switch venues to Library Square Public House!  With the new venue will come drink specials, more kiwi food options, fundraising incentives and a huge amount of support for the cause!

EXCITING TIMES!

Things are really starting to crank up here at Waitangi day HQ with some new exciting things happening.  Sponsors are rolling in, prizes are taking shape and the team is working overtime to make sure this is going to be the biggest and best Waitangi Day in Vancouver ever!
I'm sure a lot of you are aware that the Rena broke in two on the Astrolabe Reef over the weekend spilling 300 or more containers into the water and complicating the salvage effort.  Reports are that it will take two years to remove the wreck, with the clean up efforts lasting throughout this!  Lets do what we can and support these clean up efforts and one of NZ's biggest disasters!
